The Vickers hardness tester works based on the indentation method. An indenter with a specific geometry (usually a diamond pyramidal indenter) is pressed into the material surface under a specified test force. After holding the indenter for a certain period, the test force is removed, and the hardness value is calculated by measuring the diagonal length of the indentation.
